01 Resilient Petroleum Supply Chain Network Design under Operational & Disruption Risks: A Case Study

Authors

Abstract:

The oil industry is one of the biggest and most effective industries in the world. Duo to complex structure of petroleum supply chains and price and demand uncertainties, supply chain design is a suitable method for improving this industry. The complexity of supply chains causes increase vulnerability to disruption. Therefore, in order to design this supply chain, attention to resiliency that enables the supply chain to perform well in face of disruption is necessary. Duo to lack of resiliency and disruption concept in the petroleum supply chain literature, a two stage stochastic model has been proposed. Additionally, to deal with disruptions, the strategy of developing refineries and replacement of bioethanol that affect oil exports and octane import of gasoline, is also studied. Results show that disruption in octane imports reduces the current net present value and in the oil transfer sector to export terminals causes a decrease of 2 % of the objective function. Additionally, using strategies such as increasing the capacity of the refineries cause a 1 % improvement in the objective function. The model has been solved using augmented epsilon constraint method for Iran as a case study for an 8 years time horizon and sensitivity analysis has been conducted.

Sustainable and Resilient Supply Chain Network Design under Disruption Risks

Sustainable supply chain network design is a rich area for academic research that is still in its infancy and has potential to affect supply chain performance. Increasing regulations for carbon and waste management are forcing firms to consider their supply chains from ecological and social objectives, but in reality, however, facilities and the links connecting them are disrupted from time to ...

A Robust Competitive Global Supply Chain Network Design under Disruption: The Case of Medical Device Industry

In this study, an optimization model is proposed to design a Global Supply Chain (GSC) for a medical device manufacturer under disruption in the presence of pre-existing competitors and price inelasticity of demand. Therefore, static competition between the distributors’ facilities to more efficiently gain a further share in market of Economic Cooperation Organization trade agreement (ECOTA) is...

A joint pricing-network design model for a resilient closed-loop supply chain under quantity discount

In this paper, a novel resilient multi-echelon closed-loop location-allocation-inventory problem (RMCLIP) is addressed that optimizes strategic and tactical decisions simultaneously. In order to represent the purchasing cost of raw material from the supplier, a pricing model under quantity discounts is employed in the closed-loop supply chain (CLSC). Considering the capability of returning the ...

A Robust Reliable Forward-reverse Supply Chain Network Design Model under Parameter and Disruption Uncertainties

Social responsibility is a key factor that could result in success and achieving great benefits for supply chains. Responsiveness and reliability are important social responsibility measures for consumers and all stakeholders that strategists and company managers should be concerned about them in long-term planning horizon. Although, presence of uncertainties as an intrinsic part of supply chai...
